Volume no. 1410 in the “Que sais-je?” series, La Lune offers a synthesis of what was known about the Moon in the immediate wake of the first crewed landings. František Link, an astronomer specializing in lunar photometry, surveys in turn the measurement of the Moon from Earth (distance, phases, mass, gravitation), the physics of its surface (light, polarization, luminescence, formations, temperature, age), lunar eclipses, and finally the space conquest of the satellite, from Luna 3 to Apollo 13. The book incorporates the results of Apollo 11 and 12 as well as the Apollo 13 failure of April 1970.
