Vivre dans l'espace

Published in 1969 in Robert Laffont's "Jeune Science" series, this book by Georges Sourine, a science columnist for Radio Monte-Carlo, surveys the physiology and psychology of crewed spaceflight. Current as of the Mercury, Gemini, Vostok and Voskhod missions and the first Apollo and Soyuz flights, it covers in turn the physiological boundaries of space, cabin habitability (atmosphere, food, waste), life-support systems and closed ecological cycles, the effects of acceleration and weightlessness, the psychology of isolation, and cosmonaut selection. The author draws on an extensive body of Soviet and American medical literature.
