L'Homme, l'air et l'espace

A vast illustrated panorama of aeronautics and astronautics published by Éditions de l'Illustration in 1965, the successor to the 1932 Histoire de l'aéronautique. The book unfolds in three parts: "Les Origines" (Charles Dollfus), from Antiquity to 1914; "Hostilités et Paix" (Henry Beaubois), on the two world wars and the rise of civil and military aviation; and "L'Ère aérospatiale" (Camille Rougeron), devoted to jet and rocket propulsion, ballistic missiles and the conquest of space up to 1964. This last part covers the first satellites (International Geophysical Year, Telstar), lunar and planetary probes, the first Soviet and American astronauts, the Gemini, MOL and Apollo projects, and the geopolitics of the space race. Nearly 1,500 documents (photographs, colour plates, photogravure).
