Konstantin Feoktistov (1926-2009) was a Soviet engineer and cosmonaut. A Doctor of Technical Sciences, he was one of the principal designers of the Vostok and Voskhod spacecraft. In October 1964, he flew aboard Voskhod 1 as the technical specialist, becoming the first civilian in space. His dual expertise as spacecraft designer and cosmonaut enabled him to assess the vehicle's in-flight performance from direct experience.
