Werner Büdeler (20 May 1928, Berlin – 15 June 2004, Überlingen am Bodensee) was one of Germany's foremost science journalists and popular-science authors, specialising in astronomy and spaceflight. For many years he served as editor of the journal Weltraumfahrt/Raketentechnik and produced widely-watched television programmes about the Apollo and Skylab missions for the ARD network. He reported live from Cape Canaveral and Houston as the network's space correspondent and covered the major American space missions of the 1960s and 1970s. His many books include Geschichte der Raumfahrt, a landmark survey of the history of space exploration. In 1970 he was awarded the Jules Verne Medal for his outstanding contributions to space journalism.
