A Time-Life coffee-table volume, the French translation of Life in Space (1983), retracing the American space adventure from the aftermath of Sputnik to the early Space Shuttle through the photographic archives of Life magazine. The book is organised into six chapters (Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, the Space Shuttle and robotic deep-space exploration) preceded by an introduction from Loudon Wainwright, one of the magazine's star writers. It gathers nearly four hundred photographs, many of them stemming from the exclusive access Life negotiated with the astronauts and their families, supplemented by NASA imagery, maps and diagrams.
