French translation of an illustrated popular encyclopedia first published by Hamlyn in 1981. Across nine chapters it surveys astronomy (the Solar System, stars, galaxies, cosmology) and then the history of spaceflight, from the earliest rockets to the Apollo missions, from application satellites to the Mariner, Viking and Voyager planetary probes. The closing chapters look ahead to the Space Shuttle, orbital stations, space colonization and the search for extraterrestrial life.
