Economic Effects of Space and Other Advanced Technologies
Proceedings of the international colloquium Economic Effects of Space and Other Advanced Technologies, jointly organised by the European Space Agency and the Université Louis-Pasteur of Strasbourg, under the auspices of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, at the Palais de l'Europe (Strasbourg, 28-30 April 1980). The volume gathers thirty-two bilingual (French/English) papers across four sessions (methodology, results and applications, future perspectives, and contributed papers) framed by opening addresses (including that of Roy Gibson, ESA Director General), keynote lectures, a general rapporteur's synthesis and a round-table discussion. Economists (Edwin Mansfield, Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen, Mario Amendola), agency officials (André Lebeau), industrialists (Aérospatiale, Matra, MBB, Philips) and institutions examine how to measure the economic effects of space research and advanced technology: spin-off, productivity gains induced by ESA contracts, social and private rates of return on innovation, employment and microelectronics, remote sensing and meteorology.
