L'Homme et l'espace

A detailed account of the Apollo 11 mission (July 1969), the first crewed Moon landing, written by two Life magazine journalists, Gene Farmer and Dora Jane Hamblin, who were granted exclusive access to the three astronauts (Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin) and to their families. The book follows the whole adventure, from crew selection and training to the post-splashdown quarantine, weaving together the viewpoints of the astronauts, their relatives and Mission Control in Houston, and reproducing the Earth-to-spacecraft radio dialogue in full. This illustrated French edition from the Cercle Européen du Livre ("Les Grandes Heures de l'Histoire" series) uses Frank Straschitz's translation and adds a chronology of crewed spaceflight extended through Apollo 17 (1972).
