Memoirs of the Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov (1934-2019), the first human to perform a spacewalk, on 18 March 1965 during the Voskhod 2 mission. From his hungry childhood in Siberia to his training as a fighter pilot and then cosmonaut at Star City, the author retraces his path and his friendships with Gagarin, Titov and their comrades, before recounting in detail the twelve minutes spent outside the spacecraft and the difficult landing in a snow-covered forest. The text was prepared with the Novosti press agency and dedicated to the memory of Yuri Gagarin.
