La plus grande aventure de l'humanité
Published in the autumn of 1969, weeks after Apollo 11, this book by Austrian physician Herbert Pichler (the space commentator of Austrian television) covers the conquest of the Moon as a whole: an hour-by-hour account of the July 1969 mission, astronomical and selenographic background, the history of rocketry and of the American-Soviet race, lunar probes, the Gemini and Apollo programmes, and post-Apollo prospects. Space medicine (acceleration, weightlessness, radiation), the author's own field, receives extensive treatment. Preface by Wernher von Braun; glossary, tables and bibliography in appendix. Translated from the German (Die Mondlandung, Vienna, 1969).
