A commemorative booklet published in the autumn of 1969, a few months after Apollo 11, for the "Dîner Grand Siècle" hosted by the Comité du Prix de la Couronne Française. Albert Ducrocq, assisted by Aline Bats and Éléonore Bonfils of the Cosmos Club de France, traces the origins of the conquest of the Moon back to the seventeenth century: Lippershey's and Galileo's telescopes, the lunar maps of Langrenus, Hevelius and Cassini, Riccioli's nomenclature, Picard's geodetic measurements, royal fireworks and the first pyrotechnic treatises foreshadowing the space rocket. The essay closes with the photographs brought back by Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. Limited printing of 250 numbered copies, produced for the Champagne house Laurent-Perrier and illustrated with documents from the Bibliothèque nationale and NASA.
