Born on 21 April 1944 in Casablanca and died on 15 December 2022 in Bordeaux, Bernard Chabbert was a French journalist and writer specialising in aviation and spaceflight. The son of an Aéropostale pilot and himself a passionate vintage-aircraft pilot, he began at Europe 1 before becoming a senior reporter and covering the American space programmes from 1971. The author of more than twelve hundred articles and several books, including L'Homme-fusée, he won the Aerospace Journalist of the Year Award three times. In Spatiale première he shaped the first-hand accounts of the first two French spationauts.
