Harry Harrison (1925-2012), born Henry Maxwell Dempsey in Stamford, Connecticut, was an American science-fiction writer. Starting out as a comic-book illustrator and scriptwriter, he became in the 1960s one of the genre's leading satirical voices. He is best known for the Stainless Steel Rat series, for Bill, the Galactic Hero (a parody of Asimov's military space opera) and for the novel Make Room! Make Room!, the basis of the 1973 film Soylent Green. Long resident in Ireland and Britain and a co-founder of the Irish Science Fiction Association, he was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame (2004) and named an SFWA Grand Master (2009).
