Yevgeny Ivanovich Ryabchikov (1909-1996) was a Soviet journalist and writer, a pioneer of scientific and space reporting in the USSR. Having joined the daily Komsomolskaya Pravda in the 1930s, he became one of his country's leading reporters, covering the milestones of the space adventure for Pravda, Ogonyok and central radio and television. An eyewitness to launches at Baikonur and close to the cosmonauts and to chief designer Sergei Korolev, he devoted several books and screenplays to spaceflight. Russians in Space, prepared for the Novosti Press Agency, is his most widely circulated work in the West. A laureate of the USSR Academy of Sciences' Lomonosov Prize, he died in Moscow in 1996.
