Robert Richard-Foy was a French Polytechnique alumnus, doctor of sciences and aeronautical engineer, whose activity is attested in the late 1940s. His combined training in physics and aeronautical engineering enabled him, in post-war France, to approach the nascent question of reaction propulsion and its possible coupling with atomic energy. His book Voyages interplanétaires et énergie atomique (Albin Michel, 1947), published in the "Sciences d'aujourd'hui" series with a preface by Maurice de Broglie, is one of the first systematic French studies of nuclear space propulsion.
