Jacques Tiziou (1939-2017) was a French aerospace journalist and photographer specialising in human spaceflight. An ESTACA-trained engineer (1962), he began working as a freelance journalist in 1957 and turned to astronautics early on. Editor-in-chief of the first French Encyclopédie de l'espace (Rombaldi, 1965-1968), he settled in the United States, where he became one of the very few European correspondents to cover every American crewed mission from Cape Kennedy, from Mercury to the Space Shuttle. Drawing on direct access to astronauts and NASA centres, his reports and photographs appeared in Air & Cosmos and Aviation Magazine, among others. His photographic collection is now held at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. À l'assaut de la Lune (1969) is his best-known book.
